THE YEAR WAS 1955...

A friend of mine shared this interesting list with me. These are actual comments made in the year 1955, a little over fifty-five years ago:

“I’ll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are, it’s going to be impossible to buy a week’s groceries for $10.00.”

“Have you seen the new cars coming out next year? It won’t be long before $1,000.00 will only buy a used one.”

“Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging 7 cents just to mail a letter?”

“If they raise the minimum wage to $1.00, nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store.”

“When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would someday cost 25 cents a gallon. Guess we’d be better off leaving the car in the garage.”

“I’m afraid to send my kids to the movies any more. Ever since they let Clark Gable get by with saying ‘damn’ in GONE WITH THE WIND, it seems every new movie has either ‘hell’ or ‘damn’ in it.”

“I read the other day where some scientist thinks it’s possible to put a man on the moon by the end of the century. They even have some fellows they call astronauts preparing for it down in Texas.”

“I never thought I’d see the day all our kitchen appliances would be electric. They are even making electric typewriters now.”

“The drive-in restaurant is convenient in nice weather, but I seriously doubt they will ever catch on.”

“There is no sense going on short trips anymore for a weekend. It costs nearly $2.00 a night to stay in a hotel.”

“If they think I’ll pay 30 cents for a hair cut, forget it!”

I was born in 1958, and I remember gasoline when it was 28-cents a gallon. I also remember McDonald hamburgers costing a dime, and it seemed outrageous when they raised the price to 12-cents!

Thanks, Dragonmamma for visiting, as always! I can remember gas prices being well-under $1.00 (almost close to .50 cents) per gallon. My, how times change!

This is grand. Now go and built us a time machine please so we can go back. Because things were really better back then I think. (that comment is highly based on the fasion then)

I love this.

SADIE: Welcome to this blog! I'm pleased to have you as a visitor.

Not to worry: as soon as they make time machine parts, we'll all go back. In fact, I want to go back and see The Glenn MIller Orchestra live, as well as take advantage of those wonderful prices of 55 years ago.

Again, thank you for visiting!

DRAGONMAMMA: I want to go back and take advantage of $10.00 groceries. Isn't this list of sayings amazing? The most amazing thing is they're true!

Said by me during my senior year in high school, 1980: "No way I'm going to pay more than .50 cents for a pack of cigarettes!", so I quit and never smoked again!

I wouldn't go back for the world, but would love for some things now to be tempered with common sense - every time I hear about what a great actor Charlie Sheen is and how he should clean up for the sake of his show, I think we may be seeing the start of the downfall.
But then, a lot of people thought that same thing when the trend of feeding Christians to the lions started, so I may be wrong about the timing.

FTG, you post the best topics! So much fun, and thanks for letting me make silly comments!

DIO: You're very nice! I'm thrilled all of you enjoy this blog. I enjoy readers and bloggers, such as yourself, for stopping by my little corner of the world.

It is sad about actors like Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan ruining their careers like that. You've got to be very careful how you act when you're in the public eye. Like my aunt always used to say: THE TRUTH ALWAYS COMES HOW SOMEHOW..

Again, thank you so much!

Thanks again!
